Gwysaney Young Shots Day 2025

After another successful ‘Young Shots day’ at Gwysaney Sporting Club Ltd, GWCT Wales would like to thank James Davies-Cooke once again for not only providing us this day, but also for allowing us to collect charitable donations towards improving biodiversity and landscapes across Wales.

Although the shoot started with rain in the Flintshire hills, luckily the skies cleared, and the sun broke out. This was very different to last year, as some of the Young Shots recalled heavy fog across the fields. It was great to see that the young people involved were selective and skilled when shooting and diligently safe. Also, many others taking part in the day, gamekeeping, beating and picking up, all further contributed to the strong feeling of community and togetherness.

This experience was even new to some. One of which being Rachel Grant, the new GWCT Wales Placement Student. Although Rachel has researched the social, cultural and wildlife benefits that go hand-in-hand with game shooting, she says “it was great to go beyond just reading about the benefits and actually see them first hand for myself. The sense of community I felt at Gwasaney reminds me of how communities I’m actively involved in help me and my mental wellbeing.”

The group came together to conclude the day with a buffet of locally produced foods, served by the talented on-site chefs.

“Another amazing day kindly donated by Gwysaney Sporting club Ltd, not only providing opportunity for young shots to gain experience but also contributing towards our conservation work in Wales through valuable funds.”

So after a fantastic start to the season, the team look forward to attending our next event at Cefn Tilla on the 18th of September.
