Farmland Biodiversity Recovery Project – Anglesey AONB
We’re pleased to announce that we have been successful with our application for funding through the Anglesey Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) to carry out an exciting farmland biodiversity recovery project on Anglesey.
This project is an initiative aimed at reversing biodiversity decline on farmland within the AONB, with particular focus on the recovery of farmland birds and associated wildlife. Building on the success of a previous winter supplementary feeding project, this new phase will continue to work with farms across the island to deliver practical, evidence-based conservation actions that support wildlife, engage with land managers and promote sustainable land use practices.

Through tailored biodiversity plans for each participating farm, the project will support a range of integrated activities including:
- supplementary feeding
- creation and management of wild bird cover and pollen/nectar margins
- hedge and/or field boundary improvements
- installation of nest and roost sites.
It will also deliver annual monitoring of farmland bird populations and habitat quality, helping to demonstrate the effectiveness of these interventions and guide ongoing improvements.
We look forward to the start of the project in November this year, and will keep you updated as the project progresses.
Logan Crimp, GWCT Cymru’s Agriculture and Conservation Officer will lead on the project. Logan said:
“Last year’s work showed how small, practical steps can make a difference for farmland biodiversity when we work with farmers. It’s really encouraging, with more farms involved this time and with the availability to do more, we’re hopeful this year will deliver more great results for biodiversity across Anglesey.”
