Fundraising at Dovey Valley Clay Shoot
Despite the poor weather, I still enjoyed engaging with shooters at Dovey Valley. The day was challenging for many, however me and the team were thankful for everyone who came along for day of clay shooting and discussions, whilst also helping to raise money for the trust. Well done all!
4 x 4 Training
I completed a LANTRA 4by4 training course for extra experience in off-road driving in company vehicles. This will help me to navigate challenging tracks independently and add valuable driving experience.
Early spring cleaning!
Whilst Curlew Connections came to a close, it was time to sort through our stock and make space ready to start our new project, Land of the Curlew. I was responsible for taking stock counts of all our marketing materials and equipment, and of course making everything a bit easier to locate and access.
New Project Approved
The team and I are delighted to announce that Land of the Curlew will receive £1 million of funding for curlew conservation and protection across Wales!
I am excited by the new opportunities this will bring for me, including working and engaging with new people, as well as many fieldwork trips.
Revising an old project idea
Previously, my team have worked with Yellowhammers and other farmland birds through improving their presence and nesting success across farmland verges. We agreed amongst the team and partners to revise the idea of working on Yellowhammer conservation.
Interesting visitors at the feeders
After reviewing some camera trap footage taken from one of our bird feeders on Anglesey, I was surprised to find a bird we’ve not seen too often, a Great Spotted Woodpecker!
Logan Crimp and I also spent a day topping up the feeders, to extend the winter feeding season to early spring, justified by the poor weather in late winter.
Social media: behind the scenes
Whilst over on Anglesey, I made sure to take footage of the team ready to update our social media in spring. This includes taking updated team pictures and footage to use in our Instagram ‘Reels’.
