“Thank you to Roger, Philip and Gary and the rest of the committee, for putting on this amazing clay shoot and auction every year. It never ceases to amaze me how many people we get here today”
On the 18th of September, one of our most popular annual events, Cefn Tilla Clay Shoot was held. Not only did we raise awareness of the work GWCT are completing, but we also managed to raise over £15,000, which includes cartridge sales for the shoot and the amazing contributions of the post-shoot auction. We would like to thank our sponsors, including Range Rover, CENIN and NFU Mutual, to name a few, as well as our team, committee members and everyone else for attending. These events contribute to the funding of projects, like Curlew Connections and AONB.

After setting up our displays and marques, the team met everyone outside for bacon rolls and coffee. Our conservation assistant, Kaylee Fay, worked at the cartridge marque with committee member, Gary Price, throughout the day and helped to bring the day’s clay shoot results.
Lee Oliver and Owen Williams introduced the day and explained how fundraising can help fund our projects, support farmers and other landowners, and influence government to draw attention to the importance of game shooting for conserving the natural landscape.

Then the clay shoot began! Score cards were handed out and teams of 4 attended each of the 10 stands, plus a 4-man flush, to complete their team’s card. Cards were collected for finding total hits across teams for winners to be announced later.
Later, everyone joined in the events hall for drinks and the auction. There were 24 lots in total, including the star lot of a 100-120 driven day for eight guns at the Allerton Project, which was the highest selling lot of the day at £7,800. Other prized lots were painting prints from our own chair, Owen Williams, and an original by Dave Sharp, named ‘Pheasant a la fluorescent’. Attendees showed great support to this by firing bids, and this helped to raise the majority of funds on the day.

Just before the buffet dinner was served, winners of the clay shooting were announced, as seen in the table
